Calling a green-cheeked conure a playful little clown is probably one of the greatest understatements that
you could make. Active, interactive, and playful, green-cheeked conures pack much of the beloved "big parrot" personality
into a body that weighs about the same as a cockatiel.
Conures are known for their light, playful nature, and almost any conure you will come across will steal
your heart with their busy play, interaction with toys, and zest for life.
A member of the Pyrruhra species, there are many subspecies of green-cheeked conures. Originiating
from an area spanning from Boliva to Brazil, these handsome clowns thrive in big flocks amongst the tree tops.
Conures are busy birds, and should be allowed for a large cage with a variety of toys. They enjoy
manipulating foot toys, and can make the most impressive toy out of something as simple as popsicle sticks. Ideally, their
caging size should allow for some limited flight perch to perch, in order to help maintain mental and physical health. Their
small size makes this an obtainable option for even the most cozy apartment.
Being a species adapted to life in a large flock, conures like to be "part of the fray" and enjoy plenty
of time out with their people. While socializing your conure, you will soon become companion as well as playgym, as these
impish birds are known to climb, hang, and even roll over onto their backs while playing!
Not known to be one of the louder conures, the green cheeked can also learn to mimic a few words, although
their speach is usually not very clear or loud.
Conures should be fed a diet staple of pellets, fresh vegetables, fruit, and a small amount of seed.
